In solidarity with students and staff - In defense of public education in California Under the cover of the summer months, UC administration has pushed through a program of tuition hikes, enrollment cuts, layoffs, furloughs, and increased class sizes that harms students and jeopardizes the livelihoods of the most vulnerable university employees.
These decisions fundamentally compromise the mission of the University of California. They are complicit with the privatization of public education, and they have been made in a manner that flouts the principle of shared governance at the core of the UC faculty's capacity to guide the future of the University in accordance with its mission. On September 24, in solidarity with UC staff and students, faculty throughout the University of California system will walk out in defense of public education. |

The Anomalous Wave cannot be arrested! Let's support the students against the repression of the italian governement!
Please sign and circulate the call in solidarity with the students arrested (add also your affiliation): http://www.PetitionOnline.com/wave/petition.html At dawn this morning, in the framework of an investigation ordered by Torino's Public Prosecutor office, Italian police made dozens of unwarranted house searches against students and activists. 21 of them are under arrest: 15 in prison, 6 under house-arrest. This is the unjust response of the government and the Public Prosecutor Giancarlo Caselli to the mass demonstrations in Torino on 18-19 May against the G8. This is a clear suspension of any form of democratic right: the charges don't justify remands after two months. Therefore, we are facing a direct attempt of intimidation against the Wave just a few days before the G8 in L'Aquila, a forum which clearly no longer has any democratic legitimacy now. |

Last night 21 Italian students of the universities of Turin, Padua, Naples and Bologna have been arrested through a violent act of the Italian police. Sixteen students have been imprisoned, and other five have to stay under house arrest. Moreover two social centres and several houses have been raided and searched in Turin, Padua and Naples. The students arrested are in charge of resistance to police and violence during the G8 University in Turin on May. The Anomalous Wave occupied the universities, took the streets and blocked the cities against the unsustainable and illegitimate G8 University Summit, and against the crazy policy of the Italian government. During those days, Turin’s University was animated by several debates and meetings in which edu-factory collective participated too. [The perfect Wave. 10.000 against G8, charges and fight into the red zone] |

At break of the day, in several Italian cities police irrupted in students and activist places to make inspections and arrests. The repressive operation is coordinate by the Turin's police and it refers on the last May 19th demonstration in Turin against the G8 University Summit. Police also irrupted in the Social Center Askatasuna in Turin and in Padua in the space where the independent Radio Sherwood is keeping the annual self-funding festival. 21 people have been arrested: 6 in Turin, 3 in Padua, 4 in Bologna, 1 in Naples and 1 in Milan. The charges are about resistance to police and damages. Right now police inspections are still going on. This is the police revenge against the Anomalous wave and the mafioso Italian government warning at the beginning of the anti G8 demonstrations in Italy.
